European Welfare Association and Romani Uniti din Anglia

Romani Uniti din Anglia and European Welfare Association are working together on a continuous  basis since 2020  to identify and  respond to the needs for migrants from Poland, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine in mainly Sandwell area and Birmingham.

R.U.D.A and EWA have delivered successfully the SAVI project – Smethwick Against Violence Initiative during 2020-2021 period which focused on creating awareness and reporting incidents involving violence resulting from hate crime, xenofobia and lack of understanding of east european communities.

Both NGOs are delivering on a weekly basis language classes in Polish and Romanian under the same roof as well as Arabic and Ukrainian supplementary schools. On the top of delivering the language provision, the collaboration goes as well on organising community days. One example can be the community Day on May, the 7th 2022

Friends,

We were very happy to be part of #communityday that took place yesterday, May 7, 2022 in West Bromwich, Sandwell. The Romanian School “Nicolae Iorga” Birmingham celebrated together with the EWA  Polish School and the Arabic School.

Each community brought delicacies from their country which they shared with all the guests.

The children had fun games, face painting and temporary tattoos, as well as the famous cotton candy and soap bubbles.

Congratulations to the main organizers from the European’s Welfare Association CIC but also to all the volunteers involved.

We spoke to Police Officers in the community who were delighted with our traditional dress and rhythmic dances West Midlands Police

We danced the hora to the rhythm of the brothers Advahov and Stefanet under a blue May sky💙

There was a very productive dialogue with the Romanian School teacher – Laura Elena Suna and the School coordinator Mariana Plamadeala with the guests and the parents.

On the R.U.D.A table there were #homemade sweets prepared by members of the Romanian community from the West Midlands (plates of sweets from Nicoleta Harbea, Medovik cake from Mariana Tabara Voinovan, nut cakes from Alexandra Talmaciu), lemonade prepared by Iulia Andrei-Gupta and Surya and books donated by Emma Klein.

We managed to collect £122 from product sales.

After the interview on the embassy page on May 6, 2022, we received on our PayPal account – 2 donations worth £120, for which we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This £242 will be used to buy non-perishable products that we will send directly to Ukraine 🇺🇦

We hope to see many and united at the next events.
